Lewis J Thompson, age 97 and longtime resident of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, passed away at his home on Saturday, November 29, 2014. Lewis was born on May 17, 1917 in Hatton, North Dakota. He was the son of John Thompson and Josephine (Berg) Thompson. After his early education, he attended and graduated from North Dakota State University with a Master of Science degree in Engineering. He was employed by the Canal Zone Company in Panama where he met his future bride. Lewis and the former Ida Fanarow were united in marriage on August 30, 1951. In September 1952, the Thompsons moved to Bartlesville, where he became an employee of Phillips Petroleum Company, working as a Corrosion Engineer and Paint Chemist. In 1984, after 30+ years of loyal service, Lewis retired from the company. Mrs. Thompson preceded him in death in November of 2000. Since that time, Lewis has continued his residence in Bartlesville. Lewis was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Bartlesville. Other memberships included: National Association of Corrosion Engineers (where he had held every major office during his lifetime); Bartlesville Camera Club (he had a great interest in and a love for photography); Go Club; and Braille Workers of America. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ida; and his brother, Nikolai Thompson; He is survived by his children, Janice Lonski and her husband, Robert, of Bartlesville and Kenneth L. Thompson and his wife, Lisa, of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; grandchildren, Amanda Johnson, of Bartlesville, Stephen Soucy, Danny Soucy and Lauren Soucy, all three of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; two sisters, Jean Midtbo of Hatton, North Dakota, and Elisa Benson of Parker, Colorado; one brother, Ted Thompson and his wife, Ada, of Hatton, North Dakota; and one niece, Ellen Phillips and her husband, Richard, of Golden, Colorado. Memorial gifts in Lewis' name may be sent to Elder Care, 1223 Swan Drive, Bartlesville, Oklahoma 74006. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 1:00-8:00 PM and on Thursday, from 9:00 AM-8:00 PM in the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home, 710 S. Dewey Ave. Family will be present to greet friends on Thursday from 5:30-7:30 PM.
