Lewyn Eugene "JR" Smith, 85 year old resident of Ketchum, died Friday, October 12, 2012 at the Craig General Hospital in Vinita. He was born March 3, 1927 in Ketchum to Lewyn and Inez (Wilson) Smith. Lewyn graduated from Ketchum High School, then went into the United States Army, serving his country from 1945-46. He married Luella Mays on June 1, 1947 in La Sierra, California. They made their home in Loma Linda, California for over 60 years, before moving back to Ketchum in November of 2006. Lewyn was a self-employed general contractor. He was also an outstanding horseman, showing a Grand Champion Pinto Stallion named HiFi. HiFi was in many shows and parades, even the Tournament of Roses Parade on New Year's Day. Lewyn loved to fish for crappie and bass, playing music and sharing his wonderful voice. He was a member of the Ketchum Seventh Day Adventist Church. The family includes: his wife Luella of the home, a son Michael Smith and wife Lilarae of Vinita, a daughter, Linda Hossler and husband Ron of Angelus Oaks, California; a brother, James Freeman Smith of Claremore; sister in-law, LaUna Smith of Ketchum; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother Joseph Smith and a daughter Cindy Parry in 1992. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at the Luginbuel South Grand Lake Chapel in Langley. The funeral service will be held Friday, October 19, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ketchum Seventh Day Adventist Church, with Pastors, Jerry Mayes and Rick Mercer officiating.
