Lillie "Fern" Chastain, 93, a Caney, Kansas resident, died Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at the Caney Nursing Center. Lillie Fern Copeland was born October 20, 1917 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma to John Copeland and Lillie (Luellen) Copeland. Fern was united in marriage to Mack Chastain on October 17, 1934 in Caney, KS. Fern worked at Perril's Dry Goods in Caney, KS, along with caring for her family in the home. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and made many afghans that her family still cherishes to this day. Fern was very active in the Assembly of God Church in Caney where she served as a Sunday school teacher and enjoyed the fellowship with her church family. In the recent days, Fern will certainly be remembered for being a "talker", as "that was her life". Fern was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Mack Chastain; daughter, Diana Wilson; grandson, Luther Ray Herard; sisters: Virgie Kannard, Maxine Musson and Ruth Huffstutter; brothers: Cleo Copeland, Wyvil Copeland, John Copeland and Tom Copeland. She is survived by: her daughters: Judith Herard of Caney, Kansas and Shirley Owen of Bartlesville; eight grandchildren: Anthony Bellmyer and his wife Jeanette, of Caney, Kansas Pam Bellmyer, also of Caney; Vicky Moberly and her husband, Jeff, of Bartlesville, Jim Wilson and his wife, Jamie, of Dewey, Linda Gilreath of Bartlesville, Rick Owen and his wife, LaDonna, of Bartlesville, Jeffrey Herard and his wife, Rhonda, of Parsons, Kansas and Felicia Wallace and her husband, Paul, of Caney; 15 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great grandchildren, along with numerous other relatives, church family and dear friends.
