Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove, OK (918) 786-226 ~ Linda Suzanne Richards Adzigian, age 75, passed peacefully in her sleep at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, Missouri on June 12, 2016. She fought a short, but valiant battle with a very aggressive form of cancer at the base of her brain stem and succumbed just 11 days after first discovery. Linda was born in West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, Illinois on September 8, 1940, the daughter of the late Robert B. Richards and Marjorie Foulkes Richards. Marjorie was the first woman graduate from the University of Chicago with a degree in mathematics. As a child, Linda moved with her family to East Cranberry, New Jersey, where her father was Project Manager on the original construction of the New Jersey Turnpike. Later, her family moved to Stamford, Connecticut where Linda graduated from Stamford HS in 1958 in the top 5% of her class. She earned several honors including the prestigious Chemistry Prize and was listed as "sweetest all-around girl ever" in the Class Yearbook. Linda matriculated at Jackson College of Tufts University in September, 1958 where she met David, her husband and life partner-to-be, on the first day, at freshman orientation assembly. Initially an engineering major, Linda changed to History/English and earned her Massachusetts Teaching Certificate upon graduation in 1962. In college, Linda was an avid member of Chi Omega Sorority and was Class Treasurer, Jackson Delegate to the Tufts Student Council, Vice President of the Jackson Athletic Association and was a standout player on Jackson's varsity Basketball, Softball and Badminton Teams. After graduation, Linda obtained her Connecticut Teaching Certificate and returned to Stamford, CT to teach in her old school, Rippowam Junior High School. She married her life partner, U.S. Navy Ensign David John Adzigian, in the First Presbyterian Church of Stamford, CT on July 6, 1963. David grew up in Lexington, MA and also was a Class of 1962 graduate of Tufts University. After David completed his Navy flight training at Pensacola, FL, Linda and he moved their 57-foot mobile home from Milton, FL to Imperial Beach, CA, just one (1) mile north of the Mexico Border. Son Mark was born on July 6, 1966 three (3) weeks before David's return from his second deployment to the Gulf of Tonkin (Vietnam) flying search and rescue with Helicopter Squadron 4. David was discharged from active duty in September 1967 and the family moved to Binghamton, NY where David accepted a business development position at Link Flight Simulation and Training, Inc. After six (6) months the family moved to Kettering, OH where David was Link's Field Office Representative for new USAF Training Systems programs. Linda delivered daughter Lynn and son Scott while living in the fertile Miami Valley. In April, 1971, the family moved to Bonn-Bad Godesberg, West Germany. Linda found living in this quaint West German capitol city during the height of the Cold War, stimulating and exciting. She graciously mingled with many ladies in the diplomatic community. The fall of 1973 brought the Adzigian Family back to the Binghamton, NY area. Linda immediately graduated from homemaker to homeroom mother, Girl Scout cookie manager, team mother, softball coach, hockey penalty box time keeper and more. She was most commonly observed to be the jolliest and most spirited of all the mother-fans. After son Mark graduated from Vestal HS in June 1983, Linda packed the family up and moved to Arlington, TX to rejoin David who had taken a new defense industry job there a year earlier. During Labor Day weekend in 2000, David and Linda visited Grand Lake for the first time. Six (6) weeks later they bought a home on the water just south of Patricia Island Estates. Settling into retirement, Linda became a voracious reader usually checking out 5-6 library books at a time. She joined the Friends of the Library, Audubon Society, U.S. Sail and Power Squadron, Newcomers, Epicurean Club and the Delaware County Genealogy Society. She was also a supporting member of Lendonwood Gardens, Playmakers and Har-Ber Village Museum. Linda was a longtime member (64 years) of Silver Bay YMCA a Family Christian Conference Center located on Lake George in upstate NY. Linda loved the lake, boating and the gathering of family making memories together. She was also a world traveler taking over 70 trips with Patti Beth and the Good-to-Go Gang. Linda's most cherished times were spent in the service of others. She volunteered more than 9,000 hours with the Arlington TX Memorial Hospital Auxiliary; and, has accumulated about 3,000 more hours with the Integris Grove Hospital Auxiliary where she has served many years on the Governing Board. She was extremely active with Santa's Old Broads and their outreach to cloth disadvantaged and under privileged children in Delaware County at Christmas time. She supported many different areas of mission work at First United Methodist Church and served on its Staff Parrish Relations Committee. Linda worked very hard in her studies of the bible through Sunday School, Bible Study Fellowship and Beth Moore studies. She held a strong belief in her faith and overwhelming trust in her Lord and Savior. Linda is preceded in death by her parents and son-in-law, Kyle Hasselman.
