Loeta Higeons

March 18, 1920 — November 2, 2008

Loeta Jane (Killion) Higeons 88, formally of Nowata died Sunday November 2, 2008 in the Golden Living Center in Wellington, Kansas. Loeta Jane Killion was born on March 18, 1920 to Henry Clevaland and Eunice Arminta Killion in Nowata County, Oklahoma. She grew up on the family farm and attended Fairview Community Church and grade school. She was baptized at the Fairview Church. Loeta graduated from high school in Ramona, Oklahoma in 1938. She was active in her teens in the 4-H Homemakers Club and also active in Diamond Point Community Women's Club. Loeta married Edgar Clyde Higeons of Talala, Oklahoma on October 28, 1951 and together they moved to Wichita, Kansas where she was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker to her family which soon included three sons, Clyde Henry born in 1954, Robert Howard born in 1957, and Kenneth Ray who completed her family in 1958. Loeta also enjoyed summers with a large garden she was always canning and freezing produce from the garden. She would often walk around the neighborhood in the evenings and enjoyed visiting with her neighbors. She was a longtime member of the "Friendly Neighbor Club" a community women's organization where she could among other things get away from the boys for a monthly luncheon with the ladies. Edgar and Loeta enjoyed traveling with a passion. She has been in every state in the Continental United States. They traveled mostly after Edgar's retirement. After making a home in Wichita for almost 40 years, the family moved to Wellington, Kansas in 1999. A devastating tornado had destroyed their home in Wichita; and they lost most all of their earthy possessions. But she never complained because she still had her family and her faith was strong. Services are scheduled for Wednesday November 5, 2008 in the First Baptist Church of Talala with Pastor Lester Orwig officiating. Final committal rites will be accorded Mrs. Higeons in the Fairview Cemetery. Visitation for Mrs. Higeons is 9 am to 9 pm Tuesday November 4, 2008 at Benjamin Funeral Home. Loeta is survived by her husband Edgar Higeons of the Home, 3 sons, Kenneth of the home, Clyde and his wife Karen Higeons of Claremore, and Robert and his wife Dana Higeons of Broken Arrow, 4 grandchildren Tim and his wife Heather Higeons, Casie and her husband Justin Treat, Angela Higeons and Bradley Higeons and one great grandson Jacob Higeons.
