Lonnie Hughes

November 19, 1943 — July 30, 2009

Lonnie Ray Hughes went to be with his Lord at 4:45 p.m. on July 30, 2009 at the age of 65. Lonnie was born in Delaware County, Oklahoma on November 19, 1943 to Alvin and Deon (Quick) Hughes. He attended Jay High School in Jay, Oklahoma. Lonnie worked in maintenance at Pine Island Resort for 19 years until his health forced him to retire. He pulled mobile homes, delivered gas for Peterson Gas, built golf courses, ran his own business, and always loved the outdoors. Lonnie also had his own Country and Western Band, Lonnie and the Loners, for 25 years. He played lead guitar and was the lead singer, singing almost all of the numbers. Lonnie was extremely talented and could play almost any instrument he picked up. Lonnie truly loved the Lord and during the last few years, he took up singing gospel music and made several recordings. Lonnie's other passion was old cars. He had won many trophies and plaques on his car and truck. Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents and his twin sister, Sonya Kay who died in infancy. Survivors include his wife Cathy of Jay, Oklahoma; one son, Marvin Hughes and his wife Lisa of Maysville, Arkansas; three stepdaughters and their husbands, Tammy and Tim Tucker of Jay, Chastity and Michael Spohn of Jay, Jamie and Keith Enyart of Wyandotte, Oklahoma; one brother, Floyd Hughes and his wife Pat of Jay; three grandchildren, Joni Stacy and her husband Brac of Raeford, North Carolina, Seth Hughes and Amber Hughes both of Maysville; nine step-grandchildren, Bradley Tanner, Blake Tanner, Parker Silva, Morgan Silva, Alexandria Spohn, Brandon Spohn, and Chloe Spohn all of Jay, and Kyah Enyart and Jalen Enyart both of Wyandotte; three great-grandchildren, Autumn, Logan and James; one special friend Lonnie called "brother", Bill Crank of Jay; and a host of other friends and family. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, August 3, 2009 at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay, Oklahoma. Lonnie was a member of Faith Mission Church in Jay and there his service will be at 10:00 o'clock, Tuesday, August 4, 2009 with Reverend Chester Crittenden officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Hermon Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Leonard Henry, Seth Hughes, Bill Mullens, Dave Jones, John Christen, and Burnie Owens. John McDaniel, Danny King, Bill Crank, Wayne Norris, Rufus Jones, Bill Collette and Mike Coatney will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. The family suggests memorials to the Faith Mission Church, P.O. Box 823, Jay, Oklahoma 74346 in memory of Lonnie. Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home of Jay, Oklahoma is in charge of arrangements.
