Louis Bernard "Barney" Arender, age 70, died peacefully on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at the Integris Grove General Hospital in Grove, Oklahoma. Barney was born on September 27, 1940 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He was the son of Barney C. Arender and Maxine (Coffey) Arender-Vickers. Barney graduated from the University of Texas with a BA in Business Administration and went to work on Wall Street. He spent many years as a commodities broker with Merrill Lynch in Dallas, before moving to Australia. Barney lived in Australia for 15 years where he became a financial executive with IBM, hotel owner, sapphire miner and computer visionary. He relocated to the Grove area twenty years ago from Washington State, where he had spent several years hiking, exploring, and writing and publishing travel books. Barney was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his son Peter Arender of Barbados, two grandchildren Jackson and Lucas Arender, five brothers Jim Arender, Eric Arender, Max Vickers, Bob Vickers and Jack Vickers. A memorial service for Barney will be held at 4:00pm on July 24th at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove, Oklahoma.
