Louis Richard Smith, 92 of Big Cabin went to heaven on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at his home of his daughters in Vinita. Louis was born March 2, 1920 to Richard and Minnie (Steigleder) Smith. He attended Big Cabin High School until the 10th grade when he quit school to help his mother raise his four brothers. At the age of 16 he worked on the railroad, farmed & raised show cattle. He married Marjorie Pauline Dixon on April 17, 1940 and moved to their home in Big Cabin. In their sixty-three years of marriage, they raised three children. Louis was a long-time rancher in Big Cabin, however, he also worked for H. D. Youngman Construction, was a truck driver for Cherokee Togs in Pryor, and Craig County Commissioner District 3 for 12 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Big Cabin. He served several years on the Big Cabin School Board. Louis loved calf roping and teaching all his grandchildren how to ride horses. Louis is survived by his two daughters, Anita Giles of Vinita and Jan Collins of Ketchum; granddaughters: Donna Hensley and husband Rick and Debbie and Ron Johnson of Vinita; Kelli and Brian DeHay of Tulsa; Loris Smith of Kansas City; grandsons: Jason Smith and wife Melodie of Kansas City, Seth Collins and wife Whitney of Big Cabin; great-grandsons: Cory and Coby Hensley, Jobie, Julian, Xavier and Alexander Smith, Griffin, Collin and Grayson DeHay, Tyler Smith and Jayton Collins; twin great-granddaughters: Blakley and Clancey Collins; one brother, Delmar Smith of Edmond, brother in-law, Ted and Ramona Dixon of Vinita; sisters-in-law: Buddie Woolman and husband Virgil of Vinita and Betty Dixon of Vinita. Preceding Louis in death was his wife, Marjorie in 2003; his son Gary R. Smith, his parents and three brothers, Milton, Norbert and Ronnie Smith; his granddaughter Kara Dawn Collins and grandson David Ray Giles; son's in-law, Don Giles and Tony Collins. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at the Luginbuel Funeral Home in Vinita. The funeral service will be held Friday, March 23, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Church of God in Vinita, with Rev. Eddie Wrinkle officiating. Interment will follow at the Big Cabin Cemetery in Big Cabin, Oklahoma. Online condolences may be made at www.honoringmemories.com.
