V. Louise Brown, age 92, and longtime resident of the Dewey community, passed away on Thursday, in the Medicalodges of Dewey. Vera Louise Gilson was born on January 14, 1922 in Dewey, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Bob Gilson and Vera M. (Shull) Gilson. She was raised and received her education in the Dewey community and graduated with the Sr. Class of 1940 from Dewey High School. Louise and Jay Brown were united in marriage at Sedan, Kansas on December 26, 1941 and they made their first home in Dewey. She was employed at Peters Dry Goods, Popkess Pharmacy, and Ray's Grocery. She later became an employee of Phillips Petroleum Company where she retired. Many will remember Mr. Brown's Phillips service stations that he owned and operated in the Bartlesville area. He preceded Louise in death on January 5, 1987, and since that time, she has continued to live in Dewey in retirement. Louise enjoyed life to its fullest, especially her family and her pets. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Dewey, Dewey, Oklahoma. She is survived by her two daughters, Karen (Brown) Mason and her husband, Dewayne, and Mary Lou "Mary" (Brown) Shoff , both of Ponca City, Oklahoma; and one son, David Jay Brown and his wife, Susan, of Little Rock, Arkansas; grandchildren, Keith Stevens and his wife, Stephanie, of Oklahoma City, Josh Stevens, and his wife, Janelle, of Dallas, Texas, Drew Jay Brown and his wife, Amanda, of Ottawa, Kansas, and Keri Shoff of Bartlesville; and four great-grandchildren, Makynzie Stevens, Emilee Shoff, Taylor Shoff and Tucker Brown. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jay; and her sister, Patricia Morris. Memorials in Louise's honor may be made to the SPCA, 16620 State Hwy. 123, Bartlesville, OK 74003.
