Loyd Morrison

Mr. Loyd Morrison, age 85, and resident of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, passed from this life Saturday, January 21, 2012, at his home in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Loyd Morrison was born in Washington County, February 4, 1926, to George W. and Ella M. (Byrd) Morrison. Loyd is a 1944 graduate of Dewey High School. In May of 1944, he entered the United States Army where he received a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in the war. In January of 1946, he was discharged and returned to Dewey, Oklahoma. In September 1947, Loyd married Patsy Lou Shipley. She preceded him in death. Mr. Morrison became an employee of the Benson Lumber in Dewey in 1946, and worked there until 1978. He was the yard manager for many of those years and also served as Vice President of the company for several years. After leaving Benson Lumber, Loyd went to work for Phillips in the purchasing department. In August of 1979, he became the warehouse supervisor and in February 1988, he became the supervisor of the Records Center. In December 1992, Loyd was promoted to Superintendent of Phillips warehousing and on October 22, 1994 Loyd retired. In June of 1989, Loyd married Rosalind J. Scott. He was a member of the Dewey Businessmen's Club, and the Dewey Kiwanis Club. He helped organize the first Dewey Quarterback Club, and worked on several Dewey Civic projects. He was also a member of the First Christian Church of Dewey. Mr. Morrison loved sports and played softball and basketball until he was in his 60s. He will be missed by all who knew him. Preceding Mr. Morrison in death are his parents, George and Ella Morrison, five sisters, and two brothers. Survivors include his wife, Rosalind, of the home, a son, Mickey Morrison, two grandchildren, Kari Sawyer, and Kristin Morrison, one step-daughter, Tommie Endo, one step-granddaughter Rachel Endo, one sister Arlene Jane Rash, and one brother, George J. "Pete" Morrison; and many other relatives and a host of friends.
