Luana Hopkins

Luana Hopkins 78, year old resident of Grove, formerly of White Oak, Chelsea and Vinita, died late Thursday evening at the Grove Nursing Center. She was born November 16, 1932 in Clovis, New Mexico to Jasper Wells McCarty and Alene (Barton) McCarty. Luana had a restaurant at one time, worked at Kiddie Land Day Care, Home of Hope group home and lastly with Grand Lake Mental Health. She raised her children west of Vinita (White Oak), later moved to Chelsea, and back to Vinita at Burroughs Manor, and then to Grove. Luana made friends easily wherever she went, Luana was inspiration to many and loved by all. She will missed greatly by her family: her children, Sheryl Davenport and her companion, Charles Ellis of Grove, Mark Hopkins and wife Debi of White Oak, Tammy Thomas and husband Mike of Ketchum, Terri Bullard and husband Rocky of Joplin, MO, Joe Bart Hopkins of Grove; a brother, David Wells McCarty and companion Ruthie of Los Lunas, New Mexico; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother Jasper Newton "Newt" McCarty. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday evening, December 13, 2010 at the Luginbuel Chapel in Vinita. Casket bearers will be; Rocky Bullard, J. D. Davenport, Heath Hopkins, Jason Hensley, Jeremy Hensley, and Josh Henson. Honorary bearers will be, Dylan Henson, Trevor Henson, Kaden Davenport, Charlie Ellis, and Mike Thomas. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Luginbuel Chapel with Pastor Skip McClain officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Vinita.
