Luvern M. Finnell, age 92 and longtime Vinita resident, died Saturday June 6, 2009 at Craig General Hospital. Luvern was born in Garfield, Arkansas January 31, 1917 the daughter of James and Jesse (Norris) McClain. She was raised in the Topsy, Oklahoma area. She lived in Granite City, Illinois for many years before moving to Vinita in the late 1960s. She was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church. She worked several years at First National Bank providing janitorial services. She also served in the Senior Companion Program in Vinita for many years having assisted a great number of elderly residences. Luvern was an outgoing, friendly person who enjoyed watching soap operas, visiting with and eating out with her friends from church and neighbors at Buffington Heights. Luvern is preceded in death by her parents; husband Lee Finnell (1974), brothers Ed McClain, Henry McClain, Gene McClain, John Burns, and sister Myra Grote. Survivors include her daughter Bonnie Wheeler and husband Keith of House Springs, Missouri, two grandchildren, Josh Wheeler and wife Patty, Jennifer Bonham and husband Scott, and one great grandchild Tess Ann Wheeler all of St. Louis, Missouri, sister Jane Brooks of Sapulpa, OK, sister-in-law Irene Burns of Eucha, OK, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday June 10, 2009 at Trinity Baptist Church in Vinita with Pastor Ryan Goodrich, and Pastor Skip McClain officiating.
