Luvilla Mae Thompson age 94, of Nowata passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 in the Jane Phillips Nowata Health Center. Luvilla was born on June 12, 1914 to John Jefferson Melton and Louella Jane Proffitt Melton in Mayes County, Oklahoma. She married Robert Charles Thompson on January 14, 1930 in Pryor, Oklahoma; they were more regularly known as Mae and Bob. Mae and Bob were farmers; she helped Bob run the farm and milk cows. She could always raise a very large garden and would can large amounts of vegetables. When all of their children were grown with the exception of Dorothy, Mae and Bob followed the wheat harvest in the summer and in the winter Mae worked as a medication aide at the Hayes House in Nowata. She loved life and lived everyday to the fullest, she always put her family first above all else and Mae loved the Lord with all of her heart. Mae is survived by her five children John W. Thompson and she wife Jennalee of Nowata, Billy J. Thompson and his wife Helen of Afton, OK, James H. Thompson and his wife Lisa of Bartlesville, OK, Fay Norris of Afton, and Dorothy Scott and her husband Howard of Nowata, 13 grandchildren Robert Thompson and his wife Lynette of Nowata, Jan Hicks of Bartlesville, Richard Thompson and his wife Sherri of Owasso, Delores Deckard of Owasso, Shelly Layton and her husband Michael of Nowata, Stacy Ford and her husband Patrick of Caney, KS, Michele Straw and her husband John of Bartlesville, Mike Moreland of Nowata, Thomas Foster of Afton, OK, Sharri McKelvy of Afton, Rush Remington and his wife Heather of Desoto, MO, Sean Remington and his wife Jill of St. Charles, Mo, and J.J. Perkins and her husband Brad of Nowata, 12 great granddaughters, 18 great grandsons, 18 great great grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends all of whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert "Bob" Thompson, her parents John and Louella Melton, her daughter Sarah Moreland, two brothers Watt and Vern Melton, one grandson Michael Thompson, one granddaughter Melissa Remington, one daughter in law Vicki Thompson and one infant son. Funeral services for Mrs. Thompson are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 30, 2009 at the Hillside Christian Church with Ben Killion officiating. Final committal rites will be accorded to Mrs. Thompson in the Winganon Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Benjamin Funeral Home. Visitation for Mrs. Coker will be from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2009 and 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, January 29, 2009 in the Benjamin Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Mae's name can be made to The 1033 Wheelchair Van, 321 E. Cherokee Ave., Nowata, OK 74048.
