Luginbuel Funeral Home of Vinita. 918-256-5555 Lyman Alexander Myers, 85 year old Vinita resident, passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2017 at his home. He was born on April 25, 1932 in Newport, Rhode Island to Gilbert B. and Janet (Clark) Myers. Lyman graduated prep school from the Deerfield Academy, then attended Princeton University, before completing his Bachelor of Science Degree at Cal-Poly University at San Luis Opisbo. The son of a Navy Captain, Lyman served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Lyman met Erlita Lundquist in 1957 while at Cal Poly, they were married on August 15, 1959 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They lived in Tulsa for a few years, then bought a ranch near White Oak in the fall of 1961, and later moved to their home in Vinita in 1974. Lyman retired from the Oklahoma State Department of Health, where he worked in the Licensing Department. He had worked in the past for Governor Dewey Bartlett, NECO, and the Community Action Agency. Lyman was active in the Palomino Horse Association, served on the Board for Farm Bureau and was formerly on the White Oak School Board. He had raised Angus and Polled Hereford Cattle on his ranch. Lyman enjoyed reading, gardening and hot rod cars. Preceding him in death were his parents, a grandson, Ethan Clark Myers, and a brother, Clark Myers. The family includes: his wife, Erlita Myers of the home; two sons, Mark Alexander Myers and wife Lourie of Blanchard, Matthew Clark Myers of Vinita; a daughter, Gayle Elizabeth Lester and husband Rick of Nowata; brothers, Gilbert B. Myers and wife Mimi, of Mount Pleasant, SC, Michael R. Myers of Lakewood, OH; grandchildren, Jordan (Myers) Kalman and husband Alex of Oklahoma City, Reed Myers and wife Taylor of Angier, NC, and Walker Myers of Santa Cruz, CA; six nieces and nephews, Diane Myers of Washington D.C., Clark Myers of Las Cruces, NM, Chris Myers of Telluride, CO, Alex and Mary Beth Myers of Mount Pleasant, CA, Brett Myers of Seattle, WA and Anne Marie and Eric Hawes of Asheville, NC. The celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the First United Methodist Chuch in Vinita, with Pastor Randy Little officiating. Preferred memorials may be made to the Vinita Public Library or the First United Methodist Church. Online condolences may be made at www.honoringmemories.com.
