Mabel Arnold

Mabel Dutton Arnold, 78, of Big Cabin, died at her home Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, after a long illness, surrounded by her family. She was born Dec. 1, 1930, in Mountain Home, Ark., to William Russell Dutton and Mary Ella (Farris) Dutton. She left Arkansas to work at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, Kan., where she met Robert J. Arnold and they married on June 13, 1953. In 1966, they moved their family to Big Cabin, and started the dairy business. She retired form dairy farming in 2000. Family was very important to Mabel and loved spending time around her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed collecting rocks and sewing, although she had to give up sewing because her vision was failing. The last thing she made was a Ragged Ann doll for her granddaughter, Alex. Mabel loved to listen to music and gospel sung by Elvis Presley or the Gaithers was her favorite. She loved being a member of the Big Cabin Country Club. She had many good friends in the club and all of them meant a great deal to her. Unfortunately, her health kept her form participating in many of the activities, but her friends always made sure she was included in one way or another. Mabel was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Big Cabin. Survivors include her husband, Robert, of the home; two daughters, Rhonda Lawson and husband Lawrence; and Pamela Jones; son, Greg Arnold, all of Big Cabin; 7 grandchildren; Randy Lawson and wife Tammy of Adair, Lori Griswold and husband Joseph of Miami, Matt Lawson and wife Tasha of Verdigris, Jake Jones and wife Chrystal, Jeremy Jones and wife Rachel all of Norman, Alex Jones of Big Cabin, and Ryan Arnold of Van Buren, Ark., great-grandchildren; Cheyenne Flickinger, Chase Laswon, Kellee Lawson, Alayna Lawson, Landon Lawson, Devin Jones, Braden Jones, Avery Jones, Maliah Phounsavath, a sister Hazel Pittaway, of Gassville, Arkansas and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, 5 brothers; Roy Dutton, Ernest Dutton, Elmer Dutton, Austin Dutton and Norman Dutton and 2 sisters; Ruby Mitchell and Helen Heersche. Visitation will be Wednesday Sept 30, 2009 from 6-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Big Cabin on Thursday, October 1 at 10 a.m., with Rev. Larry Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at Big Cabin Cemetery. Arrangements are by Luginbuel Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.honoringmemories.com.
