Madeline Asher Osborne, age 80, died Saturday, April 5, 2008 in Grove, Oklahoma. Madeline was born on November 12, 1927 to Ernest and Kathryn (Way) Asher in Great Bend, Kansas. She grew op on her parent's farm located approximately fourteen miles from Great Bend, Kansas. She attended a rural grade school then Radium Kansas High school for two years and Great Bend high school her last two years, graduating with honors in the class of 1945. She attended Kansas State University and graduated in 1949. While there she was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority and sang with the university choral groups. After college, she moved to Kansas City and taught in a promising pre-school institution, thereafter she was employed by the Ford Motor Company until her first marriage in 1954. She became a homemaker and started her family. Madeline was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Lloyd Carlson in 1985, one son, Steve Carlson in 1992 and one brother William Asher. In 1986, Madeline was united in marriage to Jim L. Osborne in Phoenix, Arizona. In 1987, they moved to Grove Oklahoma and retired on Grand Lake. Through the pleasant years of retirement she was very active in her church, community and social organizations such as the First United Methodist Church of Grove and the P.E.O. Sorority. Madeline was a considerate, loving mother and wife. She always offered help and encouragement to her family, church family and neighbors. Survivors include her husband Jim L Osborne and his family of seven children, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Also her son James Carlson of Great Bend, Kansas, one sister Marion Hold and her husband Carl of Overland Park, Kansas, one grandson Brandon Carlson and his wife Jenny of Grove, Oklahoma and their three children, one sister in-law, Ann Asher of Great Bend, Kansas. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Grove, Oklahoma with Reverend Randy Hamill officiating. Serving as casket bearers will be Ray Nixon, Leo Hickman, Don Nelson, Sid Muse, Ron Williams and Deatley Hampton. Interment will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 10, 2008 at the Johnson County Memorial Gardens cemetery in Overland Park, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association or to the First United Methodist Church Memorial Garden Fund.
