Margaret Jean Patterson, 91, of Tulsa and a former resident of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, passed from this life, Sunday morning, March 9, 2025.
Margaret was born July 8, 1933, at Casper, Wyoming to Roy Currie and Charlotte (Stevenson) Currie. She grew up in Casper and graduated from high school there. Upon her graduation, she attended Principia College where she met her future husband, Burwell Patterson. She completed a Bachelor in Law at the University of Wyoming in 1955. After working as a private secretary for U.S. Senator Frank A. Barrett in Washington, DC, she moved to Denver where she and Burwell were married April 22, 1959.
Margaret worked as a legal secretary for Dawson, Nagel, Sherman & Howard – Attorneys at Law, Denver, CO. In 1960 she became Deputy Clerk of the District Court, in Casper, Wyoming. In 1970, she returned to the University of Wyoming to complete her Juris Doctorate in Law.
After the death of Burwell, Margaret and her son moved to Bartlesville, where Margaret became an attorney for Phillips Petroleum Company in their credit card department, from which she later retired.
Margaret was a very active volunteer. She served as First and Second Reader, Treasurer, and Sunday School Superintendent, among other roles, for the Christian Science Churches of Casper and Bartlesville. She served as a docent at Woolaroc, was an advocate for CASA, a literacy tutor, volunteer for the LaQuinta Preservation Foundation, and was President of Feminine Financiers. Margaret was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority; Casper Legal Secretaries Association; Business & Professional Women; American Association of University Women; Desk and Derrick; DAR; and the American Bar Association. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and travelling.
Margaret is survived by a son, Bruce Patterson and his wife, Bethania Patterson; a grandson, Brian Patterson; granddaughter Alyssa Patterson and step- grandaughters Whitney Donaldson, Shelly Valentin, and Swelky Suazo-Munoz, great-granddaughter, Takacha Patterson; Step-great-grandsons, Christian Sabillon, Joseph Munoz, and Zayden Munoz; Step-great-granddaughters, Melissa Sabillon, Zaeley Garcia, Mia Munoz, Genevieve Valentin, and great granddaughter Katacha Patterson her nephew, Ray Earley her nieces, Linda Farquhar, and Diane Pullin; her grand nephews and nieces Jason Earley, Renée Earley, Lauren Farquhar, Katie Berner, Troy Pullin, and Lisa Wing.
The family would like to thank all caregivers who helped Margaret through the end of her life.
Funeral service will be held at 2pm, Friday, March 21, 2025, in the chapel of Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Bartlesville’s Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Margaret’s name to National CASA/GAL Association for Children, 100 W Harrison St Suite # N140, Seattle, WA 98119.
