Our beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother Margaret "Markee" Condit Poling died peacefully in Iowa City on Thursday, May 21, 2015. Margaret moved to Iowa City in 1997 after the death of her husband Don L Poling in 1993, so that she could be near the family of her youngest child Cathy Covington. Although she had never lived in Iowa City, she did have family roots here. Her great grandfather, Moses Jenry Morsman (1812-1898) settled in Iowa City in 1846, where he served as mayor and as a noted physician. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, May 25, 2015, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, with visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those wishing to make remembrances donate to Iowa City Hospice or One Ancient Hope Presbyterian Church. Burial will take place at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery, Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Margaret was born in Bartlesville on August 29, 1919, to Louise Morsman and John Guy Condit. An excellent student, she attended grammar and secondary schools in Bartlesville, "skipping" a grade and graduating a year ahead of her class. After attending junior college in Tulsa, Oklahoma, she entered Oberlin College, where she majored in history. Taking a bachelor of arts degree in 1940 from Oberlin, she enrolled in the Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, and graduated from the School of Library Science in 1943. During the later war years, she taught school in Kingfisher, Oklahoma, and after the war, in 1946, married her childhood sweetheart Don in Bartlesville. A career Air Force officer, Don was stationed on bases in New Jersey, Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, Germany, and Texas. Their three children were born in Biloxi, Mississippi, when Don was serving at Kessler Air Force Base: Carol Louise in 1947, Robert Scott in 1950, and Cathy Lynn in 1957. Margaret and Don moved to Southern California in 1966, where he worked in the aerospace industry, after his retirement from the Air Force. In Orange County, California, Margaret reactivated her teaching certificate and professional library degree, serving for 15 years as a history teacher and school librarian in the Fullerton Union High School District. Margaret and Don made an abundant, happy, and loving life together for 47 years, enjoying their growing family, their work, and their foreign travels. Margaret was preceded in death by her brothers Dorman and Morsman and her sister Carrie Rae. She is survived by her children, Carol and Thomas Reese, Robert and Emmie Poling, and Cathy and Cary Covington; her grandchildren, Amy, Kathleen, Sarah, Siobhan, Michael, Kerry, and David; and her great-grandchildren, Luke, Emily, Callum, Hayes, Noah, Cedric, Henry, and Samuel. Margaret's children wish to thank the staff of Caring Hands and More, who gave our mother such loving care for nine years.
