Margaret Smith

Margaret Jean Smith, 81 years old, died Tuesday afternoon, October 20, 2009 at Saint John Medical Center in Tulsa. She was born February 21, 1928 in Berkshire County England to Albert H and Annie E (White) Butler. She left school at age 14 during WW2 to work in an aircraft defense plant. Margaret Jean met her future husband, John C Smith from Vinita in 1953 in England. They were married in 1954, and the marriage lasted more than 55 years. She became a US citizen in 1959, and has lived in Tulsa since 1968. Margaret Jean managed apartments and was involved in property management for several years in Tulsa. She was also a retired post office employee. She was very active in the British Wives Organization and attended several national conventions representing the local Club. She never lost her English accent and her British friends were an important part of her life. Her family includes her husband, John C Smith, one son, Kelly L Smith and wife Cindy who live in Perth, Australia, and two granddaughters, Haley and Erin Smith. Also, brothers Michael, Robert, and Terry. One brother, Roy, preceeded her in death. The graveside funeral will be held Monday, October 26 at 11AM at the Fairview Cemetery in Vinita, with Father Robert Gates officiating. Online condolences May be made at www.honoringmemories.com.
