Marguerite Porter Barrett was born in Zwolle, Louisiana, August 28, 1916, the daughter of S.H. Porter and Emma Nora (Holladay) Porter. She was raised and educated in Louisiana and attended high school in Many, Louisiana. Marguerite received her Bachelors Degree from Northwestern Louisiana University and then her Masters of Arts from the University of Oklahoma. She taught school in Arp, Texas and Midwest City, Oklahoma. Marguerite was united in marriage with Herbert M. (Bill) Barrett on June 15, 1938. They made their home in Bartlesville in 1957 when Bill joined Phillips Petroleum Company. Bill preceded her in death on April 5, 1989. Marguerite was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was a member of the 20th Century Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women, Service League, the Nellie Johnstone Chapter of Questers, Musical Research, P.E.O., Tuesday Club and other various civic organizations. From 1960 - 1962 she was the President of the YWCA and President of the Service League from 1966 - 1967. Marguerite is survived by her two daughters, Nancy Barrett Kaplan of NY, NY and Martha Barrett Henley of Surprise, AZ, one granddaughter, Melissa Henley Testini of Goodyear, AZ and one great grandson, Dante Testini of Goodyear, AZ.
