Benjamin Funeral Service Chapel - Nowata, Oklahoma Funeral services for Marilyn Louise Howard are 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Nowata with Father Jose Thottathil officiating. Interment will follow at Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be a rosary at 7:30 P.M., Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Benjamin Funeral Service Chapel. Marilyn Louise Howard, 68, of Nowata passed away Saturday, August 23, 2014 at The Journey Home Hospice House in Bartlesville. She was born January 28, 1946 in Nowata to Ida M. (Mock) and George Howard. She graduated St. Benedict's High School in Shawnee, Oklahoma and later from St. Anthony School of Nursing as an RN. Marilyn worked for St. Anthony's Hospital in Oklahoma City in Newborn Nursing and later at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa in the Out-patient Surgery department. She retired in 2001. Marilyn had served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve during the Vietnam era and was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Nowata. Marilyn was known as a kind, caring & generous person who was always doing for others. Many children referred to her as their second mother. Marilyn was fun loving and enjoyed traveling. She worked hard as a caregiver for her grandmother and aunt. Marilyn enjoyed reading the newspaper and People magazine. She made many afghans, baby-quilts and Christmas stockings. Marilyn enjoyed wood working and built her kitchen cabinets and was also very good at brick masonry. She enjoyed decorating tables for church entertaining. Marilyn is survived by five nieces and nephews, Patrick Lewis of Tahlequah, OK., Sarah and her husband John Kotchian of Omaha, NE., Michael Lewis of Tahlequah, OK., Krystina Small of Steamboat Springs, CO., Derek Stellway of Steamboat Springs, CO; two great nieces, Piper Rose Small of Steamboat Springs, CO. and Blythe Louise Kotchian of Omaha, NE; a brother-in-law, Dr. Jim Lewis and his wife Donna of Tahlequah; an aunt, Lucille Mock of Dewey, OK; seven cousins, Phyllis and her husband Bill Temple of Nowata, Gingy and her husband Marvin Baskett of Mesa, AZ., Michaleen Flores of Mesa AZ., Mary Del and her husband George Graves of Logan, KS., James Mock of Nowata, Marjorie White of Broken Arrow, OK., Bill Mock and his wife Brenda of Coffeyville, KS. She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, James Howard and Charles Howard; two sisters, Margaret Ann Lewis and Linda Stellway. Online condolences may be left at www.honoringmemories.com.
