Marilyn Lee Yirsa, 76-year-old Nowata resident passed away Sunday, January 20, 2008 at her home. Marilyn Lee Yirsa was born March 16, 1931 in Billings, Oklahoma to Arthur Foster and Leota Gatten-Foster. The family moved to Delaware in 1946. Mrs. Yirsa attended schools in Nowata. On April 15, 1950 she married Bobby Gene "Pete" Yirsa in Nowata. Mrs. Yirsa worked as a manager for KNFB Radio and then later as a teacher's assistant in the Nowata Schools for 22 years until her retirement in 1993. Mrs. Yirsa was a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ as well as the Disciples Women. She also attended Monday Morning Prayer Group and served as Secretary of the Library Board. Mrs. Yirsa was also a member of the Historical Society Board and a Focus Officer, as well as past Secretary and co-founder for the Diamond Point School Preservation. Mrs. Yirsa is survived by her husband, Bobby Gene "Pete" Yirsa of Nowata; by five children, Jerry and Vicky Yirsa of Nowata, Janice and Don Burn of Nowata, Vicki and David Cowan of Nowata, Donna Fuller of Nowata, and Lynn and Brenda Yirsa of Nowata; by two sisters, Thelma Sterba and Bernice and Dave Morehead of Bixby; by 11 grandchildren, Scott and Carey Yirsa, Tina and Dustin Gardner, Nick and Mandy Burn, Matt and Nicole Burn, Jake Burn, Nicole and Kris Rainwater, Sara Cowan, Brad and Amy Fuller, Travis Fuller, Markquis and Megan Yirsa, and Crystal Yirsa; and by 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and by one brother, Raleigh Foster.
