Marsha Jean Cates, 75, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, passed away Friday, December 30, 2022, at St. John Medical Center, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Marsha was born November 16, 1947, at Bartlesville to Francis Moland and Viola Maxine (Thomas) Moland. She grew up in Bartlesville, attending Lincoln Elementary School; Central Junior High and graduating in 1965 from Bartlesville College High School. Marsha served her country as a member of the U.S. Army and received her Honorable Discharge in 1967. She returned to Bartlesville, where she resided until 1981.
Marsha married Don Cates on February 7, 1975, at Sedan, Kansas. The couple moved to Bowring, Oklahoma in 1981 and then to rural Osage County until her death. Marsha worked as a Nurses Aid at the old Memorial Hospital in Bartlesville and as custodian for Eve Industrial Services, Niper, and Bowring Elementary School for many years, retiring in 2011. She was a member of Whippoorwill Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Don of the home, daughters Shara Van and husband Fred of rural Osage County, Wendy Cates also of rural Osage County; Son Bob Cates and wife Judy of Pawhuska, one brother Ray Moland of rural Osage County, two sisters Jo Anne Bennett of Midwest City, Oklahoma and Janeen McGuire of Arkansas; seven grandsons, Drew Tidwell of rural Osage County, Brandon Van and wife Tarae, and Casey Chambers of Bartlesville, Brandon Tidwell and wife, Elisabeth of Chapel Hill North Carolina, and Chris, Chance and Chad Hahn of Pawhuska, Oklahoma; six granddaughters, Jessie Stacy and husband Kolton of rural Osage County, Kaitlyn Hill and Husband Jackson of Oklahoma City, Chelsea Taylor and husband Hunter of Pawhuska, Tiffany Harris and husband Cody of Chetopa Kansas, Logan Cates of rural Osage County and Kamryn Van of rural Osage County; and great-grandchildren, Soren, Serenity, Aubrie, Dakota, Zoey, Bently, Nat, K.J., Kenai and Avrianna, as well as several nieces and nephews. Marsha was preceded by both her parents and by a son, James Cates on November 2, 2022.
Marsha will be cremated, and a Memorial Service will be held on Friday January 6, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Whippoorwill Baptist Church.
