Marvin Grant

Mr. Marvin Lloyd Grant, 73 years old, died Tuesday January 6, 2009 in the Jane Phillips Medical Center. Marvin Lloyd Grant a lifelong area resident was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, February 17, 1935, the son of Searles G. Grant and Bertha E. (Beason) Grant. He was raised on the family farm and graduated from Ochelata High School in 1954. Marvin and Bessie Louise (Horner) Grant were united in marriage October 31, 1958 in Nowata, Ok. Soon after their marriage, Marvin started his 34 year career with Gorman construction in 1959 and advanced to Construction Superintendent before his early retirement due to poor health. Mr. Grant was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bartlesville and taught Sunday school for many years. He led a campaign to build the Pony League Concession stand without cost to the league. Marvin was a little league coach for many years. He raised Quail and Pheasant and enjoyed hunting as well. Marvin was a member of many local groups including the Bartlesville Sportsman's Club, Tuxedo Lions Club, Quail Unlimited, National Association of Home Builders and the local Carpenters Union. Mr. Grant is survived by his wife Bessie Louise Grant of the home, two children, Terri L. Moberly and her husband Richard of Bartlesville and Michael L. Grant and his wife Terrie of Allen, Texas, three grandchildren, Megan Ramsey of Tulsa, Allyson Ramsey of Bartlesville and Taylor Grant of Allen, Tx, two brothers, Curtis Sydebotham of Ochelata, Ok. and Searles "Jick" Grant of Ochelata, Ok., numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Searles G. Grant and Bertha E. Grant and mother Elvina Mae Pierce Grant, and one sister Jane Ellen Harwell. Funeral services for Mr. Grant will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 9, 2009 at the Colonial Chapel of the Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home. Rev. Richard Stillwell will preside over the services, with interment to follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home.
