Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove, OK 918-786-2261 - Marvin "Marv" George Schissel, 70 year old Grove, OK, resident passed away on Friday, June 19, 2015. Marvin was born on May 11, 1945 in Worthington, MN. His parents were Marie (Probst) and Edward "Billy" Schissel. Marv was a gifted athlete - playing baseball, basketball, volleyball and pool. He attended Bemidji State University on a basketball scholarship, but after sustaining an injury that cut his athletic career short, he left school and eventually joined the United States Navy. He served in the Navy from 1965 to 1971 receiving commendation for outstanding performance of duty aboard the USS Forrestal when a horrific fire broke out on the flight deck on July 29, 1967. Marv married Janice (Fritz) Ackland on October 13, 1979 in Minneapolis, MN. He worked for Cinch Connectors for 40 years and retired in 2008 as a manufacturing manager. He really enjoyed playing golf, watching sports, drinking coffee and visiting with friends. However, his most prized role was being a grandfather - "Grandpa Fuzzy Face". Marv was a good husband and father, and a very generous and kind man who will be missed by many. Marv is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, LaVonne Broberg. He is survived by his wife Janice Schissel; one daughter, Anna Masters and husband Tom of Minneapolis, MN; two grandchildren, Brennan and Avelyn; one brother, Gene and eight sisters, Marilyn, Janice, Shirley, Roxanne, Nadine, Julie, Annette and Teresa; one don Abbygail, and two cats, Cali Mae and Stormy Jo. Service will be held on Friday June 26, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Grove, OK. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Lung Association.
