Luginbuel Funeral Home - Vinita- 918-256-5555...... Marvin Lee Thomas passed from this life on December 26, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in White Oak on February 3, 1934. His father was Milford Thomas his mother was Ada M. Dick and his step father was John Dick, Sr. Marvin graduated from White Oak High School in 1955. There he played basketball and baseball. He was a great pitcher and was scouted by the St. Louis Cardinals, signing a contract to play for their farm team. However, he hurt his shoulder leading a stud horse at Kelly Ranch and his baseball career ended. He was employed by Kelly Ranch after high school, then Flint Steel in Tulsa, the Warehouse Market in Vinita, then the Peabody Coal Company where he retired as a welder and truck driver. Marvin was full blood Indian of the Cherokee, Shawnee, and Delaware Tribes. He lived in White Oak and Vinita areas but spent the last few years of his life in Chelsea with his niece Jennifer Dick. He was a rancher who loved horses and cattle, hunting, fishing, and was a great stomp dance leader. He was very knowledgeable of Shawnee traditions. Preceding Marvin in death is his parents, grandparents, sisters: Norma Jean Dick, Cordelia Nan Thomas, and Katherine Dick Leaf, brothers: John Dick, Jr., Robert Thomas, Bill Thomas, Gerald Thomas, Martin Thomas, and Billy Joe Dick. Survivors include his daughter Marva Loi (Tink) Thomas Matheny of Tyler, TX, grandchildren: Kristin Welch and husband Chris, Carmen Flores and husband Daniel, David Norton and wife Nicole, Jason Norton and wife Libby, Travis Mosley, Jacquelyn Mosley, Whitney Conkrite, and 15 great grandchildren. Also a step-son Rob Parnell and wife Elaine and family of Tyler,TX, step-daughter Gayle Parnell Samuels and husband David and family of Ft. Worth, TX, brothers: Nathaniel George Dick and Andrea of Broken Arrow, Paul Dick and Rhonda of Quapaw, OK, Bruce Thomas, and John Thomas of Tahlequah, OK, sisters: Julie Whitetree and husband Pete of Miami, OK, Beverly Dick Blalock of Chelsea, OK, Geraline Thomas Kidd of Arant, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral services will be noon on Monday, December 29, 2014 at the Loyal Shawnee Cultural Center in White Oak with John Chewey officiating. Burial will follow at the Lewis Shawnee Cemetery.
