Mary Askrens

February 4, 1912 — December 16, 2010

Mrs. Askrens was born the daughter of Oscar and Edna (Dixon) Fortney on February 4, 1912 in Nelagoney, Oklahoma. She attended grade school in Okesa, Ramona and Buck Creek graduating from Nelagoney High School in 1932. Mary was united in marriage with Bruce G. Askrens on February 19, 1933. They moved to the family farm in SE Bartlesville in 1945. Mr. Askrens was transferred to Poplar Bluff, Mo with Cities Service in 1961. They moved back to Bartlesville in 1966. Bruce preceded Mary in death on September 10, 1988. Mary moved to Ochelata to be close to her daughters in 1993. Mrs. Askrens was happiest at home working on the farm and raising her farm animals. She loved gardening and working with her rose bushes. She will be dearly missed. Mrs. Askrens is survived by her three children, Patricia Butler of Ochelata, Barbara Gardner and her husband Leroy of Ochelata and Marvin Askrens of Dewey, two sisters Martha Paige of Grove, Ok and Edith Foster of Delaware, Ok, three brothers Fred Fortney of Stillwater, Ok, Alvin Fortney of Washington State and Lonnie Fortney of Muskogee, Ok, five great grandchildren, Clayton Gardner, Andra Peterson and Bryan Gardner all of Bartlesville, Jason Askrens of Kansas and Alicia Tinsley of Ochelata, Nine Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Askrens is preceded in death by her Parents, husband Bruce G. Askrens, five Sisters, one Brother, one grandson Randy Askrens and one Great Grandson.
