Mary Elamh Hamilton, 90 year old Nowata resident passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa. She was born November 23, 1921, in Jamesport, Missouri, to Albert Wayne and Retta Jane (Mitchell) Jackson. She moved to Nowata County when she was four years old and was educated in the Alluwe School System. In 1940 she moved to Vinita, Oklahoma, and married Allen Hamilton in Miami, Oklahoma. They moved to Tennessee for one year then on to Texas during World War II. After the war they returned to Nowata where she has lived since. Mary spent 11 years as the Nowata County Assessor and worked as a cake decorator and caterer for many years. She enjoyed arts and crafts such as quilting, crocheting, knitting, baking, cooking, flower decorating. Mary was a member of the Nowata Garden Club, and the South Nowata Extension Club. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Nowata where she was active in church events and Sunday school. Mary really enjoyed Thanksgiving as she was born during that time of the year. It was a wonderful time to celebrate her birthday as family was always gathering for the holiday. She enjoyed life, loved her family and friends, and will be missed by all who knew her. Preceding Mrs. Hamilton in death are her parents; Albert and Retta Jackson; her husband, Allen Hamilton; two brothers, H.T. Jackson and Hubert Jackson; and three sisters, Rose Luna, Lorea Howard, and Retta May Taylor. Survivors include two sons, David Hamilton and wife Penny, of Nowata, Gary Hamilton and wife Carol, of Sand Springs; a daughter, Diann Watters, of Friendswood, Texas; honorary daughter, Beverly Reedy, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Teri Turner, Wendy Lindersmith, Corey Highfill, Tina Cummings, Randy Hamilton, Mike Hamilton, Leslee Heatley, and Kim Riley; 12 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Fern Barrowman, of Nowata, and Trilla Coe, of Claremore; many other relatives and a host of friends. Services for Mrs. Hamilton will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 26, 2012, at the Nowata First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Benjamin Funeral Service of Nowata. Donations are recommended to the 1033 Wheelchair Van, or the Nowata City/County Library Assn.
