Luginbuel Funeral Chapel - Vinita - 918-256-5555...... Mary "Maxine" (Carselowey) Holland was born in Vinita, OK to Arthur Andrew "Mack" and Anne Olive Carselowey on August 6, 1918. Early April 22, 2015 she passed peacefully into God's embrace while her beloved daughters were at her side. Maxine graduated from Vinita High School. She was a talented pianist and enjoyed playing for Sunday School and the church choir. She enjoyed sharing God's word teaching Sunday School. Maxine was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Vinita, where her grandmother Kate Caselowey was a charter member. She worked for GRDA as a secretary to the General Council, QB Boydston. She was married to Alfred B. Holland and his work relocated them from Vinita, OK to Joplin, MO to Tulsa, OK and Dayton, OH. They retired to Vinita at the Carselowey home which was named to the National Register of Historic Places by the State of Oklahoma in 2011. The home was nominated by the Cherokee tribe. Maxine loved to share her Cherokee heritage and we were all blessed to learn of our history from her. She was an active member of Delphi, Premier, Epsilon Sigma Alpha, Eastern Star, Business and Professional Women's Club, Tulsa Indian Women's Club, and the United Methodist Womens Association. She was an avid bridge player and until 2014 played in two bridge clubs each month. During their retirement, Maxine and Al enjoyed playing golf, working in their yard, and spending Friday evening with their friends at the Vinita Country Club socializing and dancing. They loved spending time with their children and grandchildren in all activities, time together is most important to the family. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents and sister Louise Carselowey, her beloved husband A. B. Holland, and grandson Jeremy David Hughes. She is survived by her daughters: Linda L. DeFrees and husband John of OKC, Melissa A. Hughes and husband John of Tulsa. Five grandchildren: Dana L. DeFrees of OKC, J. Alan DeFrees of Van Buren, AR, Derek H. Hughes and wife Kacy, Dustin A. Hughes and wife Rachel, and Kaitlyn N. Hughes all of Tulsa, and one great grandson, Zachary A. DeFrees of Van Buren, AR, cousins Roberta Dockery, Sue Buzzard, and extended family. Maxine loved her precious cat companions, Big Boy and Baby. They shared love and unwavering companionship. A special thanks to her wonderful friends and caregivers Lucinda Berry, Mike Mitchell, and Roy Ramseyer Jr. Services are to be held at the Luginbuel Funeral Chapel in Vinita, OK on April 25, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Sonja Tobey officiating.
