Mary Virginia Merrell, 77, of Oologah passed away Thursday, May 15, 2014 at the Claremore Nursing Home. She was born November 4, 1936 in Nowata to Mildred (Hudson) and Roy Phillips. Mary grew up in Nowata and was a graduate of Nowata High School. She married Bobby Glen Merrell on February 8, 1958 at Nowata. The Merrells moved to Oologah in 1973. Her husband preceded her in death on August 29, 1984. Mary was a member of Oologah First Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and choir member. She especially enjoyed helping with vacation Bible school. Mary did latch hook and loved fishing and spending time with her family, and watching the old Westerns on TV. Mary is survived by four children, Babbie Berryman of Oologah, Steven Merrell of Oologah, Tammy and husband Jeff Beene of Caddo Mills, Texas, Frank Merrell of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; a sister, Grace Ann Waldroup of Nowata; close family member Trish St. John of Oologah, ten grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bobby Glen Merrell; two brothers, Leroy Phillips and Jerry Phillips.
