Mary Zelma Oden, 100, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2011 at the Owasso Baptist Village, Owasso, Oklahoma. Mary was born on January 21, 1911 to George Marshal and Ida Olive (Kirby) Epperson in Watova, Oklahoma. In 1929 she graduated from Nowata High School. Mary was united in marriage on December 6, 1929 to Arnold Glen Oden, also known as "Dutch." They moved to Owasso, OK in 1946. He worked in the oil fields so the family moved around a lot. She kept busy with her church by being a Sunday school teacher. She was also a talented seamstress, making wedding dresses and costumes. Mary also enjoyed gardening, canning, and taking care of the cows and chickens on the farm. During World War II Mary worked at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City as a junior mechanic where she prepared replacement aircraft engines. Near the end of the war she worked at Douglas aircraft in Tulsa, working on the airplane assembly line. From 1953 to 1956 Mary owned and operated a café in Dawson, Oklahoma. She had many life experiences and met many friends over the years. She will be missed by many. Mrs. Oden is survived by two daughters; Glenna Feland, of Owasso, Sharlene Driggars, of Beggs, a son; Bill Oden and his wife Carole, of Owasso, twelve grandchildren; Janet Wrestler, Bud Feland, Bob Finch, Trina Buchanan, Jay Driggars, Jerry Driggars, Glenn Driggars, Dusty Driggars, Mary Oden, Neal Oden, Allen Oden, and Chris, Oden; many other great and great-great grandchildren, other relatives, and a host of friends. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, George and Ida Epperson, her husband, Arnold Glen "Dutch" Oden, and all of her nine siblings. Funeral services for Mrs. Oden will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 15, 2011 in the chapel at Benjamin Funeral Service with Ben Killion officiating.
