Mary Louise Porter, 93-year-old long-time Nowata resident, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2008 at the Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville. Funeral services for Mrs. Porter will be held at 10:00am, Monday, June 9, 2008 at the First Church of God in Nowata with Pastor Marc Adams officiating. Interment will follow in the Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of the Benjamin Funeral Home of Nowata. Mary Louise Porter was born near Cleora, Oklahoma on April 10, 1915 to Edward Hamilton Hudson and Maggie Chloe Thomas-Hudson. The family moved to Nowata County in 1918 and she later graduated from Nowata High School in 1932. She and David Leroy Porter were married December 25, 1932. They moved to the present home site in 1933 and have lived there since that time. Mr. Porter was a farmer and rancher, while Mrs. Porter worked at Prim's Bakery, the Tag Office, and during World War II she worked for the War Price and Rationing Board. Later she would work for the Tax Assessor's Office and was a Charter Member of the First Church of God where she was pianist and organist for several years. Mrs. Porter was a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Church Council for 17 years, and in charge of all funeral dinners at the church for nearly 15 years. She also served on numerous other church boards and committees. On August 7, 1984, Mr. Porter preceded her in death. Mrs. Porter is survived by three daughters, Judith Parrott of Bartlesville, Linda Pearsall of Nowata and Wanda and her husband Ron Wintjen of Nowata; by one brother, Eugene Hudson of Deaconville, Texas; by one sister, Liladene and her husband Edward Stout of Ferndale, Washington; by 6 grandchildren, Jami Weaver of Ochelata, Lee Tevebaugh of Nowata, Lloyd Tevebaugh of Delaware, David Pearsall of Nowata, Kim Kester of Nowata, Jeff Parrott of Milton, Florida; by 15 great-grandchildren; by 2 great-great grandchildren; and by one special niece Janet Porter-Guy-Harper; and by a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; and by one brother, Lloyd Hudson.
