86 year old rural Vinita resident, Mary Kathryn Chaney Postier passed peacefully from this life on Monday, May 13, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. The second of four children, Mary was born on December 22, 1926 in Centralia, OK to George Williams and Bertha McColloch Chaney. Mary attended school in Centralia and graduated on May 18, 1944. While there she met the love of her life CJ Postier. CJ and Mary were married October 23, 1944 at the First Baptist Church, Vinita with Rev. J Harvey Scott officiating. Before her marriage Mary worked at the Lyric Movie Theater and the Mitchell Drug Store located in the Hotel Vinita. Following marriage, her stint as an Army wife and the birth of her children Mary returned to the workforce as an employee of W. E. Foster, the County Superintendent of Schools, and late as a Southwestern Bell Long-Distant Telephone Operator where she retired after 14 years and 2 months when the Vinita office closed on December 19, 1976. Mary and CJ moved from Vinita to the Ironside community in March of 1952 when they purchased the "Old Ironside Place". There they enjoyed all the benefits of rural life. Gardening was an annual event, and Mary grew and canned lots of produce. She was also an active member of the Ironside rural school PTA. Mary's widowed mother Bertha Chaney, moved to the Postier farm in 1974 where she lived independently. The family and especially Mary were blessed with her company and companionship for 15 years before her death in May of 1989. Following retirement Mary became involved in community affairs. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Business and Professional Women, the Telephone Pioneers of America, the Grand Lake Cowbells, and served as a Cherry Red Volunteer just to name a few. She also held some form of office in most of these organizations including serving as President. And for many years Mary coordinated workers, cooked for and worked the concession stands famous for their spoonburgers at the annual Will Rogers Memorial Rodeo. Mary and CJ were also members of the Lake Are Campers and they thoroughly enjoyed their monthly camping trips. They also enjoyed touring the United States with their 5th wheel camper. Baptized at a young age, Mary and CJ were confirmed into the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod at Grace Lutheran Church, Tulsa, OK on March 30, 1947. They were members of Zion Lutheran Church, Chelsea before becoming charter members of Messiah Lutheran Church in Vinita on May 15, 1990. Mary was also active in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League at Messiah. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband CJ, father and mother-in-law Clarence and Sena Johnson Postier, sister-in-laws Betty Myers Chaney, Myrtle Ann Postier Mirley, and Joyce Hutcheson Postier, and brother-in-laws Cecil Glen Postier, Kenneth Lyle Chultz, Paul Allan Condray, and nephew Steve Leroy Postier. Mary is survived by her daughter and loving caretaker Judith Ann Postier of the home, daughter and son-in-law Patricia Kay and Everette Hagebusch of Chelsea, and son David Postier and wife Trish of Zena, OK. Grandchildren: David Lee Postier, Jr. and wife Meredith, Jessica Rae McElmore and husband Evan, Amy Leigh Rice and husband Morgan and Matthew Everette Hagebusch and wife Marilee. Great-grandchildren: Maggie Elizabeth Postier, Nicholas Jared Hagebusch, Benjamin Matthew Hagebusch and Levi Matthew Dwayne Rice. Also, sisters Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Condray, Shawnee, OK, Lila Ruth Provence and husband Stan, Miami, OK, and brother George Walker "Doc" Chaney and wife Alvera, Coalgate, OK. Brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws Ervin and Patsy Postier, Tulsa, Ruth and Bill Jackson Pond Creek, OK Dick Postier, Enid, OK, John and Margie Postier, Enid, OK Fred and Faith Postier, Dennison, TX and Clara Marie and Ray Hasselwander, Edmond, OK, twenty-eight special nieces and nephews and a host of friends and other family members. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Friday, May 17, 2013 at the Luginbuel Funeral Home in Vinita. The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Vinita, with Rev. Bruce C. Cottrell officiating. Interment will follow at the family farm.
