Mary Ann Sorrell, 80-year-old Nowata resident, passed away Monday, October 20, 2008 at the Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville. Funeral services for Mrs. Sorrell will be held at 2:00p.m., Friday, October 24, 2008 at the Hillside Christian Church with Ben Killion officiating. Interment will follow at the Ball Cemetery in Childers. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 7-8pm Thursday. On-line condolences can be left at www.honoringmemories.com. Services are under the direction of the Benjamin Funeral Home of Nowata. Mary Ann Sorrell was born May 13, 1928 in Atoka, Oklahoma to C.C. Johnston, Sr. and Lena Maude Vaujhan-Johnston. She grew up and attended school in Nowata. On June1, 1946 she married Cleo Sorrell in Atoka. Mrs. Sorrell worked as a seamstress and operator of the North Harvard Cleaners. After her retirement in 1988, she returned to Nowata where she has resided since. Mrs. Sorrell was a member of the Hillside Christian Church. She loved to read and thus worked in the Nowata City County Library for several years. In her spare time, Mrs. Sorrell loved bowling and accompanying her husband on numerous fishing trips. Mrs. Sorrell is survived by three sisters, Wilda Parrish of Nowata, Joan Thacker and her husband Elmer of Inola, Oklahoma and Viola Reeder of Meriposa, California; by one sister-in-law, Beryl Johnston of Owasso; and by a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; by two brothers, Payton Johnston and Chester Johnston, Jr.; and by two sisters, Juanita Schwabb and Carol Kay Payne.
