Mary Ellen Wendt, 77, of Nowata, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2014. She was born November 29, 1937 in Nowata to Walter Grant and Winnie Jane (Wright) Grant. Mary Ellen spent her life supporting her hometown of Nowata where she graduated high school and went on to attend Bartlesville Business College. Mary worked at Phillips Petroleum Company until her employment at First National Bank of Nowata. She remained there until her retirement. She married John Ed Wendt in Nowata on February 16, 1996. Mary loved reading Harry Potter books. She played the organ for the First Baptist Church for years, and the piano at the Hays House. She loved to travel and she especially liked sharing pics from her many trips to Hawaii with John Ed. Mary talked a lot about fun times with her Sunday School class and the Senior Adult Choir. Growing up Mary didn't have any pets but after marrying John Ed she delighted in telling stories about their kittens and also photos and stories of the grands, great grands, nephews, and nieces. Mary was a quiet, kind, gracious, warm, positive, encouraging, and loving Christian woman who will be greatly missed by all in her family and by her friends. Mary is survived by her husband, John Ed of the home; three step-sons (although she considered them sons) Marshall Wendt and wife Teresa, Mark Wendt, Michael L. Wendt and wife Monica; seven grandchildren, Jesse Wendt, Chelsea Wendt, Autumn Wendt, Michael D. Wendt, Michelle Wendt, D. Marissa Finlay, Miranda Hayden; two nieces, Marjorie Smith Malone, Jane Crupper Gilliam, three great nephews, three great-great-nieces, four great-great nephews, and eight great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Winnie Grant; two sisters, Kathryn Marie (Grant) Crupper, Helen Francis (Grant) Smith and one brother, J.W. Grant.
