Lifetime Vinita resident, Mary Emma (Reed) Witt, age 87, died Friday, February 12, 2010 at the Claremore Nursing Home. Mary Emma was born in Vinita April 16, 1922, the daughter of Dr. Willis Reed and Hope (Stanwaity) Reed. She graduated from Vinita High School and later attended Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater. On May 3, 1942 she was united in marriage to State Representative John David "J. D." Witt on May 3, 1942. Together they raised two children. Mary Emma was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Vinita, E. S.A. sorority, P.E.O., and Del Phi. She also started the Cherry Reds volunteer group at Craig General Hospital and was an avid supporter of many charities including St. Jude's, the American Red Cross, and the Salvation Army. Mary Emma is survived by her daughter Karen Cochran and husband Raymond of Claremore, son David R. Witt, PhD and wife Angela of Houston, TX, 3 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister, Jeannette LaBoon, and husband "J. D." Witt (1973) Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at the Luginbuel Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jim Bradford officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
