Mattie Jenkins

Mattie Christine Jenkins, 84 year old former resident of Vinita, died Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at the Claremore Veterans Center. She was October 19, 1926 in Vinita to Oliver A. and Mattie C. (Wagner) Vogel. Mattie graduated from Vinita High School, attended college at NEO A&M in Miami and the University of Tulsa. She served her country in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1951 during the Korean Conflict. Mattie married Clyde Jenkins on March 7, 1978 in Vinita at the United Methodist Church. She had taught school at West Point west of Bluejacket for a year. She had also been a player on the Red Heads traveling basketball team. Mattie was a member of the Vinita, First United Methodist Church, the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary and Vinita Senior Citizens. The family includes: her step-son Coy Jenkins and wife Marti of Claremore; grandson, Chet Jenkins of Claremore; brothers, Lawrence Vogel of Tulsa, Oliver Vogel of Grove, Robert Vogel of Vinita, sisters, Mildred Minson of Vinita, Rose Mary Gray of Muskogee, Marguerite Roberts of Albuquerque, New Mexico; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clyde Jenkins, brothers, Alfred Vogel, Edwin Vogel, sisters, Louise Taylor, and Betty Shamblin. The funeral will be held Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at the Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel in Vinita. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Vinita.
