Mavis Young

November 23, 1935 — July 6, 2008

Mavis Young, 72, a resident of Bartlesville, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2008. Mavis was born on November 23, 1935 to Elmer Lee Wilson and Lucy Lockey Butler. She graduated from high school in Ft. Smith, Arkansas in 1953. Mavis moved to Bartlesville in 1972 and began working for Phillips Petroleum in the Research and Development department a year later. She was a part-time student at Bartlesville Wesleyan College. Mavis married Donald Lee Young in May of 1981. She retired from Phillips in 1993 with her last position in the treasury department. More importantly, she was a devoted member of The Bible Church of Bartlesville and was certain of her salvation through Christ Jesus, our Lord and savior. She also was an active member of Big Brothers and Little Sisters and the Red Hat Society. Surviving are her daughters, Terra Lynn Underwood of Bowling Green, Kentucky, and Tammy Lea Carroll of Frisco, Texas, and son, Samuel Walker Meek IV of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma,; seven grandchildren, Christen Underwood of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Brett, Bryan, and Brooke Carroll of Frisco, Texas, Ashley Quinn of Claremore, Oklahoma, Magee Meek of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and Kaylee Meek of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; three great grandchildren, Alex and Eve Underwood of Bowling Green, Kentucky, and Christina Chavez of Frisco, Texas; one sister, Mary Jo La, Jean Boyce of Hampton , Virginia. Mavis is preceded in death by her parents, Elmer Lee and Lucy Lockey Wilson, brother, Elmer Lee Wilson, Jr., and husband, Donald Lee Young. Mavis was a member of the Jane Phillips Society and the Bible Church of Bartlesville. Graveside committal will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2008 at 10:00 AM in the Memorial Park Cemetery with Memorial services to follow at 11:00 am in The Colonial Chapel of the Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home. Reverend Charles H. McCarthy of the Bible Church of Bartlesville will officiate. Services are under the direction of the Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at www.honoringmemories.com. Friends may visit with the family at the Neekamp Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM. Memorials may be made in Lieu of flowers to the Bible Church of Bartlesville, Care Of WL Price, 1355 SE Lariat Drive, Bartlesville, Oklahoma 74006.
