Benjamin Funeral Service - Melvin R. McGee (loving husband to Carol Sue McGee), 78 year old Nowata businessman died Friday, May 23, 2014 in an automobile accident just south of Nowata. He was born February 19, 1936 in Davenport, Oklahoma to Ora David McGee and Grace Gertrude (Stone) McGee. Melvin was a 1954 graduate of Davenport High School where he loved to play sports. He enjoyed telling stories of his high school days playing quarterback on the football team. On November 1, 1956 he married the love of his life, Carol Sue Johnson in Stroud, Oklahoma. Melvin was a self-taught geologist and started several business's in the oil industry. Mel Ray Oil Company, M&S Well servicing, and McGee Drilling were all business Melvin created. He moved his family to Nowata in 1974 where he started McGee Properties and a Cattle business. Melvin enjoyed playing golf, flying airplanes, riding motorcycles, and in his younger years fishing and hunting Deer and Elk. Mel and Sue loved to travel. Going to new places, seeing new things, and meeting new people brought them years of enjoyment. Melvin was an avid OU football fan. He became friends with many of the coaches, including Barry Switzer, and traveled with them to many football games and events. Melvin was a member of the Living Word Family Church in Nowata. Above all the accomplishments in life, his heart was fondest of his family. His wife, four children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all of his other relatives were embedded deep in his heart and he loved them all. He will be missed by all who knew him. Proceeding Mr. McGee in death are his parents, Ora David and Grace Gertrude McGee; siblings Troy McGee, Fred McGee, Thelma Seaba, Norma Jean Hudgins, Helen Holland, and Curtis McGee Survivors include his wife Carol Sue McGee, of the home, four children, Cheryle Myers, Monty McGee, Timothy McGee, and Kenneth Scott McGee; grandchildren, Sharlie Jo Guess, Pepper Jasmin Wooten, Jessica Rae Ferrerya, Elizabeth McKenzie Myers, Steven Ray Myers, Lindsay Brooke McGee, Stephanie Paige Robinson, Kristie Kay Hagelin, Tyler Joshua Pitzer, Matthew Jacob Pitzer, Emily Ann Hayes, Matthew Miles McGee, Sean Michael McGee, and Lauren Micheal McGee; 12 great grandchildren; siblings, Dora Henson, and Max McGee; many other relatives as well as a host of friends.
