Benjamin Funeral Service - Nowata, Oklahoma............................... Melvin Ray Parrett Sr., 77 year old Nowata resident passed from this life December 5, 2015 at Jane Phillips Nowata Health Center. He was born August 13, 1938 in Centralia, Oklahoma to William Franklin and Maude Musetta (Shipley) Parrett. He was a 1957 graduate of Childers High School. On December 20, 1959 he married the love of his life, Barbara Grissom, in Nowata. Melvin worked as an Ice Cream Pasteurizer for many years before becoming a machinist. Many people knew him as the milkman as that was his CB radio handle. Melvin was a member of the Alluwe School Board for several years. He enjoyed camping, pulling ponies, and coaching his kids in summer baseball. He was very instrumental in getting the ballfield in Alluwe built. Melvin was a member of the Childers Full Gospel Church. Upon his retirement he loved keeping stats for the National League baseball teams. He had a special table and stack of papers where he would keep track of almost every stat for every team. He especially liked the St. Louis Cardinals and the Oklahoma City Thunder basketball team. Melvin could never pass up a bungee cord laying in the highway and was known to stop in the middle of the road to pick it up. Above all Melvin was a very loving man. His wife, children, grandchildren, and family held a special place in his heart. He will be missed by all who knew him.
