Merle Mae Mills (Denton) (Terrell), 90, died Saturday at Alterra Sterling House South in Bartlesville. Mrs. Mills was born on March 22, 1917 in Kansas, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of the late Mae (Todd) Denton and Wade Denton. Following her parents early death she was adopted and reared by her loving aunt and uncle, the late Jessie (Barton) Denton and Charles C. Denton. Mrs. Mills was a graduate of Stigler High School and Northeastern State University. On Sept.15, 1936 she was united in marriage with James C. Terrell, Jr. in Stigler. He died in May, 1948. On December 25, 1958 she and K. L. Mills, Jr. were married. They lived in Bartlesville and he preceded her in death on July 15, 2001. Mrs. Mills was a 2nd grade teacher at Jane Phillips and Limestone schools. She cherished and loved her many students over the years. There was always a place in her heart for every child in need. Mrs. Mills is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Anne (Terrell) and Ginger Griffin, of Bartlesville, two grandchildren, Truly Griffin, of Bartlesville and Greg (Marta) Griffin, of New York City, NY, two great-grandchildren, Ana Truly Griffin and Elisa Mae Griffin, of New York City, NY and her step-son, K. Louis Mills, III (Carolyn), of Vienna, Va. Mrs. Mills was also preceded in death by her sisters Barbara (Denton) Wallace and Wilmoth Denton and her brother, Wade Denton.. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m.Thursday in the Sneed Chapel of the First United Methodist Church of Bartlesville, with the Reverend J. D. Ward officiating.
