Merrill J. Reynolds, 86, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2010, in Vinita, OK. Born July 5, 1924, he was preceded in death by Gladys and Ross Reynolds (parents) and Lyndell (brother) of Carrollton, Illinois. He was a retired geologist. He graduated from Carrollton High School, served our country as a proud member of the U.S. Navy during WWII and graduated from Washington University with a master's degree in geology in 1952. He was a life member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Upon graduation his distinguished career took him to Venezuela as a geologist with Richmond Exploration Company and ultimately led him to Tulsa, OK where he joined A.G Oliphant in 1956. Later he was an independent geological consultant to numerous companies in the Tulsa area finally founding Reynolds Exploration Company. Reynolds was the author of numerous papers about and led the way in the initial studies of geothermal energy as early as 1959. He was successful in the development of three hundred producing wells. He was a lifetime member and served as a distinguished lecturer for AAPG on geothermal energy, a member of the American Institute of Petroleum Geologists and also served as President of the Tulsa Geological Society. Throughout his life, Reynolds devoted himself to the betterment of the people that surrounded him. He is survived by his wife, Julie, a son, Merrill, Jr. of New Braunfels, TX and daughter, Darcy Reynolds Souza of Denver, CO. He is also survived by grand children, Kathryn Reynolds and Berkeley Souza. Family would prefer that any donations be made in his name to your favorite charity. Private family service.
