Mildred Ada (Lengel) Johns, 87 year old resident of Rosewood Terrace in Vinita, died Monday evening December 15, 2008. She was born June 15, 1921 in Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania to Daniel H. H. Lengel and Ada (Bast) Lengel. Mildred graduated from Pottsville High School in 1939, attended the Ford School of Business and attended Pennsylvania State University. She was married to Robert W. Johns on December 17, 1943 in Montgomery, Alabama; he preceded her in death on October 19, 1997. She moved to Vinita from Lawton in 2003, and previous to that she had lived in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania for many years. She had worked at City National Bank, Ost and Ost, Pottsville, Pennsylvania, and Chilton Industries in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Mildred was a member of the Drexel Hill Methodist Church since 1947, was active with the United Methodist Women, and was honored as Methodist Woman of the year in 1996. She served as a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts, enjoyed being a wife and mother, playing the organ and sewing. Those preceding her in death include her husband, a son Richard L. Johns on March 20, 2005, and a brother Robert B. Lengel on December 14, 1986. The surviving family includes; two sons Robert E. Johns and wife Cherry of Vinita, Daniel C. Johns and wife Kathleen of East Fallowfield, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, Melissa Johns, Stephanie Johns, Daniel Johns II, Drew Johns, Kevin Johns and nine great-grandchildren, with one on the way and one great-great-grandchild on the way. The graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2008 in Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania, with Pastor Robert Johns officiating.
