Mildred Faye Lewis was born January 3, 1936 at the family farm in Adair, OK to Herman Bland and Eureka Mae (Jacob) Lewis. She went home to be with the Lord on Saturday September 8, 2012, at the age of 76. Mildred attended Adair Schools all her life and graduated in 1954. She came to Vinita to live with her sister Virginia after graduation and worked for Bob Haslett Drug Store for a short time before becoming a "Number Please Girl" with Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. She worked in the Vinita office until its closing and transferred to Bartlesville and then on to Tulsa until she retired from AT&T. Mildred made many friends and memories as a switchboard operator and remained an active member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, Oklahoma Chapter #41. Mildred was also a dedicated volunteer for Meals on Wheels and faithfully delivered every Friday with Donnie or Dottie. Mildred was always a dedicated Christian and was a member of the First Christian Church all her life until 2000, when she joined the Craig County Baptist Church in Vinita. She was a devoted to her choir, the Bible School program and her church family. She loved spending time with her best friends Dottie, Lorenda, Andrea and Velma and many others too numerous to mention. "Meme" loved life and found beauty in everything she saw. Mildred was blessing to everyone who was around her and will be missed by many. She is survived by; her sister Virginia Gilbert of Vinita; three nieces, Sharon Collins and husband Mike of Vinita, Mary Summers and husband Tom, Debbie Godash of Colorado; two nephews, John Gilbert and Donnie Gilbert of Vinita; several great nieces, including Kati Collins of Tahlequah and Audrey Collins of Vinita; one cousin, Neppie Wallace and husband Marvin of Claremore; best friends, Dottie Littrell, Andrea Hogan, Lorenda Allen, Robbie and Robyn Lewis and many others. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Walter Lee Lewis in 1996 and his wife Goldie, one brother in-law Ray Gilbert in 1998, nephews, Tom Lewis, Lynn Lewis, Walter Lewis, Jr. and a great nephew. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at the Luginbuel Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held, Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Craig County Baptist Church with Pastor Don Carden officiating.
