Mitchell "Jack" Hilderbrand was born on September 22, 1922 in Vinita, OK, the son of Samuel and Fannie Fritz Hilderbrand. He died Wednesday, February 16, 2011. He attended Chilocco Indian School in Ponca City, Estella School, and Seneca Indian School in Wyandot, Enlisting in the Navy in 1943. During his service time in WWII, he was awarded the Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, and the Philippines Liberation Campaign Ribbon with 2 stars. Following his honorable discharge, Jack and his brother Floyd owned and operated a dairy farm in Oswego, KS before retiring to Tulsa in 1975. There he spent many enjoyable years bowling with friends and competing in many tournaments. He moved back to Vinita in 2005. He's always enjoyed spending time with family and friends and watching OU and Dallas Cowboys football games. He is survived by his sister Georgia Lawrence of Vinita, nephews: Richard Hilderbrand and Ronnie Cox of Vinita, nieces: Jan Schwab of Clovis, CA, Judy Hilderbrand Sautter and Judy Hilderbrand of Vinita, Darlene McKinzey of Jay, Marlene Johnston and Jeannie Downing of Tulsa, as well as numerous great nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jack is dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Timpson Chapel Cemetery with Pastor Scott Schiele officiating.
