Luginbuel Funeral Home Vinita, 918- 256 -5555…….Earleen Berry Johnston departed this world November 21, 2017, in Vinita. A life-long local resident, she was born 92 years ago on March 12, 1925, in rural Mayes County. Earleen loved playing basketball, and excelled at academics, graduating as Salutatorian from Ketchum High School in 1943. She married Gail Edwin Johnston on March 20, 1943, shortly before he shipped overseas to serve with the Navy in the Pacific Theater, World War II. Earleen joined the war effort by working in a munitions plant. After the war, she accepted employment with the US Postal Service and built a 47-year career, retiring as Postmaster of the Ketchum Post Office in 1992. She also handled the paperwork for Edwin's construction business and jointly they built a cattle ranch near Ketchum. After many years of fellowship with the United Methodist Church in Ketchum, Earleen with Edwin were founding members of Church on the Lake, and later adopted Cowboy Junction Church in Vinita as their final church home. She was a member of the Adair Chapter of Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron. Earleen was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Edwin, and her parents, Earl and Mabel Cohea Berry, all of rural Ketchum. She is survived by her only child, Sue Johnston, and son-in-law, Alec Kercsó, Santa Fe, New Mexico. Also surviving her are nephew, Glenn Sample, of St. Louis, Missouri, and sister-in-law, Carolyn Chaney, of Grand Lake Towne. Graveside services at the Ketchum Cemetery will be conducted by Wade Markham of Cowboy Junction at 2pm on Saturday, November 25, 2017. Service under the direction of Luginbuel Funeral Home.
