Norman Lee Applegate, 79, a resident of Copan, OK died Saturday, January 19, 2013 at his residence. Norman was born November 11, 1933 in Sugar Creek, Missouri the son of Richard and Velma (Lowe) Applegate. He grew up in the Dewey and Bartlesville communities and in 1951, at the age of 18, Norman entered the U.S. Navy. He proudly served his country for nearly eight years, being honorably discharged in November of 1959. Norman met his wife, Leta Ann Butler at a dance in the Cimarron Ballroom at Tulsa, Oklahoma. They were united in marriage on October 18, 1957. To this union, they were blessed with three children: Karen, Diane and Ricky. Norman had a 38 year career with Phillips Petroleum Company where he worked as a printer. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, hunting, fishing and going to his grandchildren's activities. He was preceded in death by: his parents and a sister, Nadine Scott. He is survived by: his wife, Leta (Butler) Applegate; two daughters: Karen (Applegate) Dunn and Diane (Applegate) Johnson; a son, Ricky Lee Applegate; two granddaughters: Chandra Owens and Ashley Leann Applegate; a great grandson: Ryan McLain; a sister, Darlene Cramer-Prior and a brother, Richard A. Applegate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to 105 Johnson Street; Copan, OK 74022, as plans are being made for any contributions to benefit a hunting and fishing preservation organization.
