Ollie Kay Carver, 91, a former Vinita resident passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2007 at Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was born to James E. Kay and Rosa Reno Kay on March 2, 1915 in the Grand Lake area, near Bernice Oklahoma. She received her elementary and high school education at Cleora, Oklahoma, graduating from high school in 1934. She then attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK receiving a B.S. degree in elementary education. She later completed graduate work at Oklahoma State University. She taught school a total of thirty-four years; seventeen years in the eastern part of Oklahoma and seventeen years in the Oklahoma City system in the middle schools. She was married to C.L. "Buster" Carver, in Vinita, April 3, 1935. He preceded her in death May 15, 1985. Others who preceded her in death are her only child Wilford Kay Carver, January 15, 1988 her parents and seven brothers- Rollie Kay, Ottis Kay, Fred Kay, Carl Kay, Clarence Kay, Boyd Kay, Bennett M Kay and her sister Virgie Kay Walker. Mrs. Carver was a member of the Portland Avenue Baptist Church, Oklahoma City. She was also a member of several other organizations: Life member and Past Worthy Matron of Chapter #20 eastern star, Vinita, OK, Mother advisor of Rainbow Girls a number of years, past president of VFW ladies auxiliary #1099, Vinita, a delegate to the 35th National VFW Encampment, St. Louis, MO; American Legion Auxiliary, Good Sam Travel Club and an active member of Oklahoma Education Association. Survivors include a daughter in law Dina Carver Frake of Tulsa, OK, a granddaughter Sabre (Carver) Hedrick of Oklahoma City, a grandson Blade Carver of Sallisaw, OK. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM on Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at the Luginbuel Funeral Home in Vinita, OK with Pastor Lloyd Crawford officiating. Interment will follow in the McLaughlin Cemetery. Under the direction of the Luginbuel Funeral Home in Vinita, OK.
