Opal Marie (Melton) Stimson, age 83, and resident of Bartlesville, Oklahoma passed away August 5, 2012 at her home surrounded by family. Opal was born August 11, 1928 in Chelsea, Oklahoma to Bert Clarence and Jessie (Bible) Melton, the youngest daughter and tenth child of 14. Opal attended school and graduated from Chelsea High School in 1946. She continued pursuing her education and enrolled in Draughon Business School in Tulsa, graduating in 1948. Upon her graduation, Opal moved to Bartlesville. Opal and Jack T. Stimson eloped to Eureka Springs, Arkansas and were married on September 22, 1950. They were blessed with three children, Terry Lee, Sandra Kay and Jackie Sue. Once settled in Bartlesville, she began her career working for Phillips 66 for 10 years. She also worked several years at Bartlesville Stationery. She served as secretary for the church for many years and retired in 1987. She and Jack were very active in West Oak Baptist Church (formerly Oak Park Baptist). If there was ever an example of a Christian woman, wife, mother and grandmother; it was Opal. She volunteered as a Sunday School teacher and was an Act Teens leader. It goes without saying, if you ever stayed at Opal's house on Saturday night you were going to go to church Sunday and have pancakes with peanut butter for breakfast. She enjoyed fishing and watching the Cardinals with Jack, sewing, reading and playing Bingo with the grandkids. She served as Den Mother for Cub Scouts in the 1950's and 60's. One of her greatest enjoyments in life were her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved attending all the sporting events for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. To whom she was, and will always be "Granny". Opal is survived by her three children, Terry Stimson and his wife, Linda, Sandy Marshall and her husband, Mike, and Jackie Mensch and her husband, Garland; five grandchildren, Genny, Maggie, Rachel, T.J. and Brian; eight great grandchildren, Audrie, Cameron, Collin, Trenton, Mackenzie, Kaydence, Erinn and Carson; sister, Allien Carver and brother, Stanley Melton and numerous nieces and nephews and her "extra girls", Jana, Lee Ann, Betty, Brenda and Sally. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Stimson; parents; sisters, Viritta Park, Malinda Bryant, Jesse Mae Melton, Roberta Melton and Ethel "Cricket" Werts and brothers, Clarence and Lonnie Melton, Tom Melton, Jerry Melton, John Melton and Laurel Melton.
