Orville Hughes, Jr.

Orville Lee Hughes Jr., "Sonny" 68 of Delaware passed away Saturday, August 22, 2009 in the Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2009 in the Martin Cemetery with Rev. Lawrence Green officiating. Visitation for Mr. Hughes will be Monday and Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. in the Benjamin Funeral Home. Orville was born in Childers, Oklahoma to Orville and Evelyn (Hicks) Hughes on September 30, 1940. Orville was better known to his friends and family as Sonny. He graduated from Childers High School in 1958, Sonny then started working in the oil fields at the age of 18 until he retired. Sonny enjoyed the outdoors and spending his spare time hunting and fishing. Sonny married Katherine Pearl Little on September 8, 1992 in Bentonville, Arkansas. He was very devoted to his wife and 5 children; he loved his family and never missed a moment to let them know how he felt about them. Sonny was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife Katherine Hughes of Delaware, 2 sons George Hughes and his wife Jerri of Cherryville, Kansas, and Dennis Hughes of Nowata, 3 daughters Tonja Taylor of Platte City, Missouri, Kathy Smith and her husband Robert of Delaware, and Melissa Riley and her husband Billy of Delaware, 13 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 1 brother Wayne Hughes and his wife Margie of Nowata, 2 sisters Caroline White of Nowata, and Kay Smalley and her husband Ron of Nowata, and numerous other extended family members and friends. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents Evelyn and Orville Hughes.
